The end for The Green Room!

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

A sad day for Canberra’s live music scene with The Green Room announcing that the doors will close for the last time on Fri 31 October. Gaz has long had an “interesting” relationship with his landlords..the owners of O’Sheas downstairs. Apparently that have pulled a swifty with the lease in order to keep their caryard running at the expense of The Green Room. Gaz has been searching around for new suitable premises, but without luck.

All the GR equipment is up for sale and avaliable from the 2nd Nov. All is in excellent condition and well loved.

Gaz added the following…

“Big cheers to all our punters and local acts whom have supported us over the past 6 years…

Big cheers to my staff, Owen, Stevie G, Big Trav, Jake and my (VERY!!) supportive wife

See you around..”

Sellin’ you Salvation Tour - Mojo Juju & the Snake Oil Merchants

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

Mojo Juju & the Snake Oil Merchants (those rag tag musical rat bags), elope with Opposable Thumbs, Melbourne’s circus sideshow superstars, and Lillian Starr, Sydney’s bent burlesque sugar bomb! This Sept/October, they will be making a pilgrimage from Melbourne to Byron to bring Vaudeville, Sideshow, Punk & Burlesque to the willing.

Each are flamboyant entertainers in their own right. Now they join forces to create an interactive show of old fashioned indulgence.

Opposable Thumbs push the boundaries of contemporary sideshow performance.

Lillian Starr, fresh home from her European Tour, is a Perverted pinup, politically up-yours and leaves a trail of glitter with every footstep. This lil’ firebrand is the very essence of high femme on stage.

Mojo Juju and The Snake Oil Merchants deliver their sultry and sinister Vaudeville Blues & Junkyard Jazz, sound tracking and intertwining with these daredevil antics of freak show proportions.

‘(Mojo Juju & the Snake Oil Merchants are) Eccentric, dirty, strange, sensual and rollickingly robust, their music takes audiences through places where the wild things grow…’ -Drum Media.

So book your tickets now and secure your Salvation!

Wed, Oct 1st @ The Phoenix, Canberra. w/ Mr. Fibby

Dead Letter Circus
Watching someone on their first listen to Brisbane alternative breakthroughs Dead Letter Circus searching to come up with a neat description is fascinating viewing “It’s kind of like no wait, it’s more of a Wow, I have no idea what it is, but it’s different” Part of the beauty of the soaring, sing-a-long choruses, chiming atmospherics and delay soaked tones of Dead Letter Circus is their escape from easy classification via labels or scenes.

Blue Note Lounge, Mawson, Canberra

For the middle of winter, the Blue Note Lounge in Mawson offers a warm and inviting oasis to any that care to venture into the freezing Canberra night air. The venue is well laid out and many gamers dollars have been re-invested into a building of some note.

Mal, Just Bands CEO, had asked me to amble along and do a review, so, for the first time in a long time I was picked up by the JB’s limo and whisked away to the Mawson Club. (more…)
